New BG28 H enters the UK market - Powerful, Versatile and Efficient

The BG28 H is the latest addition to BEUK's fleet and the fifth BG28H rig introduced into the UK piling market over recent years. This rig is tailored for various techniques, including Kelly, CFA, FDP, Rigid Inclusions and Soil Mixing. Its combination of power, versatility, and efficiency makes it a preferred choice for use on construction projects within the UK and Ireland, across our customer base.

Key Specifications and Features of Bauer Equipment’s new BG28H:

  1. Engine and Power
    • Engine Model: The BG28 H rig is equipped with a Caterpillar C9.3 354kW Stage V diesel engine, ensuring the highest level of compliance for non-road mobile machinery (NRMM).
  2. Rotary Drive
    • Torque: Rotary head with 280KNm torque output and high-speed drilling gear, which is necessary for some ingle pass techniques.
    • Rotary Speed: The rig offers variable rotary speeds, with a range typically between 9 to 55 rpm, allowing operators to adjust the drilling speed according to the piling solution.
  3. Crowd System
    •  Crowd Force: The crowd system comprises of a 330kN Crowd winch equipped with Crowd Plus assistant to boost extraction force to 595kN.
  4. Mast Assembly
    • Mast Extension 3m mast extension which is hydraulically locking and folding, and Vario Mast head for quick conversion between techniques.
  5. Undercarriage
    • BAUER BT75 Base Carrier and UW80 undercarriage with 900mm track pads for reduced ground bearing pressures.
  6. Mobilisation and Rigging
    • Transport Dimensions: The rig can be quickly disassembled into manageable components, facilitating easy transport to and from job sites. The Rig including mast extension can be transported as one unit ~ 80t (including 14.7t counterweight) and the KDK and tooling/casing transported separately.
    • Multi-remote control functionality allows for rigging and de-rigging the machine safely, eliminating the need for working at height.
    • Rigging/De-rigging: The H model's rapid rigging and de-rigging capabilities make it well-suited for efficient operations around existing infrastructure like bridges and underpasses, overcoming accessibility challenges that larger rigs might encounter.
  7. Safety and Control Features
    • Safety features: The BG28 H features a fixed catwalk on the side of the cabin, complete with handrails, additional emergency stops and cameras, ensuring full HS2 compliance.
    • Stability Plus: Stability Plus operator assistant is a feature designed to allow operators to work at a greater radius safely. The system assists the operator to make informed decisions to maintain safe operating conditions.

Capabilities

The BG28 H rig is highly versatile, making it suitable for a wide range of applications in the construction industry. Details on the specifics for each technique can be found below:

  • Kelly Drilling  The BG28H can install rotary bored piles to a maximum diameter of 1400mm cased or 1700mm uncased.
  • CFA: Piles can be installed to a maximum pile diameter of 1200mm, and a maximum drilling depth of 18m. If required, an additional 8m Kelly extension can be utilised to increase the maximum depth to 26m.
  • FDP/ Rigid Inclusions: The BG28 H can install rigid inclusions with a maximum column diameter of 620mm, and a maximum drilling depth of 18m. With the 8m Kelly extension , it can achieve depths of 25.5m
  • Soil Mixing: The BG28 can install Single Column Mixing (SCM) up to diameters of 2500mm. Similar to the FDP/Rigid technique, depths of 25.5m can be achieved utilising the 8m Kelly extension, depending on the diameter of tooling.

The BG28 H has gained significant popularity within the UK market, largely due to its versatility, efficiency of mobilisation, design, hence making it an ideal choice for the piling industry.
